The service

KanaDrill is a free tool for practicing hiragana and katakana, alone or with others. We may change, pause, or shut down any part of it at any time, with or without notice.

We update KanaDrill from time to time, and an update restarts the site. Anything in progress at that moment stops, and a multiplayer game ends for everyone in it. Every answer you've already given still counts towards your progress, though a quiz or board cut short won't appear in your recent games. A daily challenge cut short can be picked up where it stopped. We try to update at quiet times, so this rarely catches anyone.

Your progress is tied to a cookie in your browser, not to an account. It can be lost if you clear your cookies, switch browsers or devices, or if we have to reset data. We don't guarantee that we'll keep it.

Using KanaDrill

When you use the site, please don't:

• choose a display name that's offensive or harassing, pretends to be someone else, or contains someone's personal information;
• disrupt games or other players, or try to overload, break into, or interfere with the site;
• use bots, scrapers, or other automated tools that put heavy load on the site.

We may rename players, remove them from games, or block access if someone breaks these rules.

Ownership

KanaDrill's design, code, and original content belong to KanaDrill. You may use the site for personal study and for teaching. Nobody owns the kana themselves.

No warranty

KanaDrill is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We don't promise that the site will be accurate, uninterrupted, or error-free.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, KanaDrill and the people who run it are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any lost data or progress, that result from your use of the site. Our total liability for any claim about KanaDrill is limited to the greater of what you paid us to use it in the past 12 months (for a free site, nothing) or US $50.

Privacy

The privacy policy explains what we keep and how to have it deleted.

Changes

We may update these terms. When we do, we'll change the date at the top of this page. If you keep using KanaDrill after a change, you accept the updated terms.
